During my visit with Maruge, I learned that in that part of Africa one of the main genres they listen to is "Taarab". It is usually very "happy" music so it is in a major key and it has some uses of the harmonic minor scale, which makes it sound "Indian". Also the word Taarab is a loanword from Arabic. The word طرب means "having joy with music". Here is a taarab song simply called UA by Abdullah Ahmed & Seif Saleh.
